6. In the late ’60s while we were shooting in a hospital, I met a

ako ng show; tinanggal ang mga commercials ko. At that time, we
seriously thought of living in the States. Nakabili na nga kami ng
bahay doon, eh.

11. Zsa Zsa and I have a daughter, si Zia. We also have an adopted
daughter, si Nicole who was just a few months old nang ibigay sa akin

Sylvia la Torre

Sylvia La Torre—



Dubbed as the soprano comedienne, she appeared in such films as Gorio at Tekla and Takas sa Bataan which was directed by Olive la Torre, her father. She also appeared in Yantok Mindoro, Sebya Mahal Kita and O Sendang with Pugo, Rosa Aguirre and Bentot .

Sylvia La Torre was born in 1933. She took her first voice lessons from her mother Leonora Reyes, a Kundiman and opera singer. Her first break as a singer happened in 1938 at the age of five, she defeated much older competitors with her powerful rendition of “Bakit Mo Ako Pinaluha?” at Savoy Theater. The years during the Japanese Occupation saw Sylvia as a child performer in stage shows at the Life Theater, singing and acting in skits along with popular stars, her repertoire consisted of songs in Filipino, English, Spanish and Japanese. She studied at the University of Sto. Thomas (UST) Conservatory of Music after the war.

Lilian Velez

Lilian Velez--Some of her films included Binibiro Lamang Kita (with Norma Blancaflor, Ely Ramos and Narding Anzurez), Engkantada (with Lilia Dizon, Pugo,Togo and Alfonso Carvajal), Estudyante (with Narding Anzurez, Pugo and Togo) and Sa Kabukiran (with Narding Anzurez). Her sensational killing by her own co-star Narding Anzures was made into a film, The Lilian Velez Story, which starred Sharon Cuneta as Lilian Velez, Cesar Montano and Joel Torre under the direcion of Carlo J. Caparas. She was a native of Cebu whose father, Manuel Velez was a composer for movies. Narding Anzures was the son of Rosa Aguirre. He died of tuberculosis in Bilibid Prison.

She appeared in Tulisang Pugot (with Fred Montilla), Ang Kasaysayan ni Rudy Concepcion and Texas, Ang Manok na Nagsasalita which we all produced by Sampaguita Pictures. She also appeared in Rosalinda (with Rodolfo Ruiz), whose main story was story based on the recording and radio industry as produced by Philippine Artists' Management.

Veteran radio/theater/TV/movie actress Tita Muñoz died of heart failure at 6:10 night, in April 11, 2009. She was 82.

Maria Teresa in real life, Tita was among the pioneer radio talents. She starred in several stage plays and Hollywood-produced films including Flight of the Sparrow.

Even after she suffered a stroke several years ago, Tita continued to appear in movies and TV shows.

Her remains have been cremated. The wake will be held at the Sampaguita Chapel of the Funeraria Paz at the Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Parañaque City, until Tuesday, April 14. A necrological Mass will be held tonight at 7 o’clock.

Tita is survived by brothers Rafael and Cayetano, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews including the Muñoz actor-brothers Leandro, Carlo and Angelo (sons of Tita’s late younger brother Louie) who are now based in the States.

She started playing extra in the movies in 1953. She got a second lead role in Pilya in 1954 with Gloria Romero but she became popular in her first starring role, opposite Dolphy in Jack and Jill in 1955. She failed to bag the acting award in her tomboyish role which was won by Gloria Romero in her movie Ilocana.

She won her first actinng award in 1956 for her movie Gilda. She could have won the award the following year but she lost to Rosa Rosal by a few votes.

She shifted from comedy to drama as the love triangle with Eddie Rodriguez and Marlene Dauden became phenomenal hit after Sapagka't Kami'y Tao Lamang.

However, Lolita Rodriguez won another Famas acting award in her movie Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang.

Lolita Rodriguez migrated to the United States but did some movies while she was in the country. Ina ka ng Anak Mo was a movie with Nora Aunor which won raves from film critic.

Though his action films were few and far in between, he starred in Taga sa Bato with Paraluman, Lolita Rodriguez, Van de Leon and Eddie Garcia under the direction of Conrado Conde. lito Anzures , a Filipino award-winning actor was a nephew of actor Miguel Anzures and veteran actress Rosa Aguirre.He is a cousin of actor Nanding Anzures.

He was married to Norma Ledesma, with whom he has eight children.

Angelito Castro Anzures was born to Felix Anzures and Juliana Castro on February 22, 1927 in Sta. Ines, Bulacan, Philippines, He died in 1995.
He studied at the Marcelo H. del Pilar Elementary School and finished his secondary education at Bulacan Academy, Bulacan. Using his nickname "Lito" for films, he first appeared in Halik Sa Bandila (1948), followed by Sigaw ng Digmaan (1963), Tanging Ikaw (1968), Sorrento (1968), Romantika (1970), Mga Anghel na Walang Langit (1970), Ang Kampana ng Santa Quiteria (1971), Daluyong at Habagat (1976) and Ibilanggo Si Nene Magtanggol (1977). Goodlooking and dramatic, he appeared in 7 films opposite movie star Fernando Poe Jr., including Sigaw ng Digmaan, Tanging Ikaw, Sorrento, Ang Pagbabalik ni Daniel Barron (1968), Asedillo (1971), Agila ng Maynila (1989) and Wanted: Pamilya Banal (1989). In 1963, he received a best supporting actor award from the Film Academy of Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) for his performance in Sigaw ng Digmaan; ironically, his first starring role, not supporting. In 1985 he received best supporting actor citations from Star Awards and Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MANUNURI) for Paradise Inn (1985). REYCARD DUET

Reycard Duet BIOGRAPHY



Reycards duet is composed of Rey Ramirez and Carding Cruz. As the Reycard duet, Cruz and Ramirez had been entertaining audiences since the sixties. Ramirez was known as the dashing singer while Cruz provided the comedy in every performance.

Rey and Carding first teamed up in 1953 during a singing contest in Quiapo, Manila, where they won first prize.

In 1954, they started calling themselves the Reycard Duet and became the most famous entertainers at the Clover Theater and the Manila Grand Opera House, both in Manila.

The Reycard Duet also performed in town fiestas, on television and radio in the '50s.

In the 1960s, the Reycards hit it big in Las Vegas, which became their home for more than 40 years. They became known not only in the US but also in Europe and other parts of the globe.

Carding whose real name was RICARDO Castro, was married to a Japanese woman but they had been separated.

In the early '90s, they hosted "Awitawanan," with Pilita on Channel 13. They also starred in comedies like "Katabi Ko'y Mamaw and "Yes, Yes, Yo, Kabayong Kutsero


When Ramirez died, Cruz remained active as a solo performer and for a few years was part of the ensemble cast of the ABS-CBN comedy sitcom Home Along da Riles.


He died of cardiac arrest in a hospital in Las Vegas in 2003 .

Carding was survived by his sons Bongbong, Anthony and Jerico, and siblings Saturnina, Angelita and Belen.

Carding was 70.

Rey Ramirez, the other half of the Reycard Duet, died in August 1997.

He was survived by his wife actress Lyn D' Amour and children.

Rey's death had broken Carding's heart, according to their close friends in show business.

Jun Aristorenas was born as Juanito Aristorenas in Manila on May 7, 1934. He was a dancer-turned-movie actors. His first bit role was Kurdapya starring Gloria Romero and Ramon Revilla in 1954.



He also in such movies as Johnny Tigre, Ronquillo, Ang Babaing Ito’y ay Akin (with Divina Valencia), Soliman Brothers (with Jess Lapid) and Ama Namin (with his son Robin Aristorenas). He was married to Virginia, acknowledged action queen of that time. His other movies included Quadro de Jack (with Pres. Joseph Estrada, Jess Lapid and Jing Abalos) which was produced by J.E Production Inc., and Tarzan and the Brown Prince where he co-starred with a foreign actor and Robin Aristorenas which was produced by Junar Productions, Inc. He also became a director later in his showbiz career.

His other son is Peter Aristorenas.

Ric Rodrigo was born in 1931 from a Filipina mother and Danish father.

He was introduced in Prince Charming with Gloria Romero. He also appeared in Anino ni Bathala with Paraluman, Marlene Dauden and Eddie Garcia under the direction of Conrado Conde and in Diyosa opposite his reel and real wife Rita Gomez. One of the popular loveteam partner of Gloria Romero, he was also in the cast of Ang Inyong Lingkod Gloria Romero with Mario Montenegro, Luis Gonzales and Juancho Gutierrez. He starred opposite Charito Solis in Dahil Sa Isang Bulaklak which gave Charito Solis the best actress award in the Asian Film Festival. Ric again starred with Charito in Igorota with Mario Motenegro and Eddie Garcia as produced by the Luis Nepomuceno Productions. His son Ronald Bregendahl was also an actor who married another actress Chona Castillo.

Arlen Quindoy Aguilar (1929-18 July 2003), better known by his stage name César Ramírez, was a Filipino actor who was a leading man for Sampaguita Pictures. He was famous for his portrayal of a Philippines' mythical hero, "Bernardo Carpio".

Cesar starred in Huwag Ka Nang Magtampo and was introduced in Huling Patak ng Dugo. He was the title role in Palasig with Gloria Romero. In Bernardo Carpio, Dumagit, Ukala and Diwani he starred oppostite with reel and real life wife under the auspices of Sampaguita Pictures, Inc. He appeared with other Mr. Philippines title holders like Jesus “Og “ Ramos, Stan Carbungco, Mario Hernandez and Pat Pagsibigan in Kahariang Bato which was produced by Tamaraw Productions.

His teamup with Alicia Vergel, who later became his wife, was considered controversial during their time. They did some sizzling kissing scenes which were considered bold during those days.

After his separation from Alicia, Cesar moved to the US with his new family. His son Ace Vergel brought him home when he learned that Cesar would be put in a nursing home.

“That’s okay in the States. Pero hindi natin kultura ’yun (But that’s not our culture). I really convinced him to come home. Cesar (Arlen Quindo Aguilar in real life) has been in a coma at St. Luke’s Medical Center. He was 78. He died with his two children by Alicia, Beverly and Ace, at his bedside.

His daughter Beverly Vergel and granddaughter Tracy Vergel, like son Ace, also entered showbiz.
He was married to Alicia Vergel. They had two children, Ace and Beverly.

A member of the Ilagan family (with Robert Arevalo and Jay Ilagan), she was married to Rod Evans (or Rod Ongpauco, the son of Bonifacio Ongpauco of Everlasting Pictures). She gained stardom almost simultaneoiusly with Susan Roces, Amalia Fuentes, Daisy Romualdez and their contemporaries). She appeared in Kaming mga Talyada with Juancho Gutierrez Jose Mari, Tony Marzan, Boy Alano, Charlie Davao, Rod Navarro, Bino Garcia as the gays, Barbara Perez, Daisy Romualdez, Meldy Corrales, Naty Santiago, Juvy Cachola and Nory Dalisay. Another film whe appeared in was Tindahan ni Aling Epang where she co-starred with Jose Mari and Matimtiman Cruz.

Her career in the movies began when she was only 4 years of age. As a child star, she appeared in "So Long," "America," "Hindi Kita Malimot," "Selosa" and a few others she barely remembers now. Even before appearing in the movies, Liberty was quite comfortable in movie sets, as her Tia Laling, who was very fond of her and took her everywhere.

At age 6, she started going to school. As a teenager, she was invited to participate in a Santacruzan at the Manila Hotel, where the late Dr. Jose Perez of Sampaguita Pictures chanced on seeing her. He immediately asked her uncle, Conrado Conde to give her a screen test, which she passed with flying colors. Actually, her father, director Gerry de Leon was not keen and her joining the movies. Nevertheless, when she turned 14, she was introduced in the film, "Lover Boy" which starred Susan Roces, Romeo Vasquez and Jose Mari.

Looking back, Liberty admits that she had difficulty balancing her time between the movies and attending school. In fact, she lost a scholarship during her third year high school. However, she still managed to take up Law and continued until she was in the second year. During all this time, Tia Laling was her constant chaperon, unusually knitting while Liberty did her scenes. She even accompanied her when Liberty began going out on dates. But she still recalls how badly she felt when her Tia Laling did not allow her to go out on a date with the French actor, Alain Delon, when he came to Manila to promote his film, "Forever My Love."

It was only when Liberty get married to Rod Ongpauco that her aunt ceased to accompany her. By now too, she had settled down to raise a family. She has 3 children by that marriage that ended in divorce several years later.

Love is her eldest, who is presently in the United States. She is the brains behind LOVE recipes such as bottled spreads, sauces, dips, low fat garlic and pesto cheese. There is also spicy sundried tomatoes, tinapa, longganisa with vinegar, and sardines. She eagerly looks forward to her daughter’s return from Chicago where she is taking a special course in baking cakes and decorating.

Second daughter, Happy is very much involved in running different types of restaurants. She owns World Topps, Bento Box chain restaurants and lately, Pinoy Fiesta and Lechon Express at the Baywalk. The youngest, Soeng which in Chinese means Mountain Flower, recently got married. She is the one who manages her mother’s restaurants, one of which is Barrio Fiesta along Makati Avenue.

What few know is that Liberty is a graduate of the Philippine Institute of Interior Design, where she enrolled after she got married.

Liberty is now married to Carlos Lardizabal, a real estate lawyer from Los Angeles, California.

Earned the nickname Queen of Visayan Movieland for having starred in most of the the Visayan-made movies in the Philippines in the 50s and 60s.

Got into movie after impressing producer of Visayan Films with her declamation of "Vegeance is not ours, it's God."

Her first marriage was with Mat Ranillo, Jr., another actor. They had seven children. Mat Ranillo III, Suzette Ranillo and Danding Ranillo became movie actors and actress too.

She remarried with another actor Amado Cortez who became a consul in the United States.

Amado Cortez also died recently.
