Sylvia La Torre—
Dubbed as the soprano comedienne, she appeared in such films as Gorio at Tekla and Takas sa Bataan which was directed by Olive la Torre, her father. She also appeared in Yantok Mindoro, Sebya Mahal Kita and O Sendang with Pugo, Rosa Aguirre and Bentot .
Sylvia La Torre was born in 1933. She took her first voice lessons from her mother Leonora Reyes, a Kundiman and opera singer. Her first break as a singer happened in 1938 at the age of five, she defeated much older competitors with her powerful rendition of “Bakit Mo Ako Pinaluha?” at Savoy Theater. The years during the Japanese Occupation saw Sylvia as a child performer in stage shows at the Life Theater, singing and acting in skits along with popular stars, her repertoire consisted of songs in Filipino, English, Spanish and Japanese. She studied at the University of Sto. Thomas (UST) Conservatory of Music after the war.
