Ike Jarlego succumbed to lung cancer

Ike Jarlego, a child actor who became a director/editor of the Philippine cinema died. Here is the news:

Film editor Ike Jarlego Jr. passed away on Aug. 24. He was 68.

He worked as editor in some of the most acclaimed films from the Second Golden Age of Philippine cinema (in the 1970s and 1980s): Lino Brocka’s “Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag”; Mike de Leon’s “Itim”; Mario O’Hara’s “Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos”; and Ishmael Bernal’s “Himala,” among others.

He was also a child actor in 1950s films like “Pag-asa” and “Waray-Waray.” In the 1990s, he directed films like “Andres Manambit: Angkan ng Matatapang” and “Nena.”

According to youngest son Karlo, Jarlego suffered from lung cancer. His wake was at Paket Funeral Homes, Marcos Highway. Funeral is on Sunday, 11 am, at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.

The Camay Ladies Part 3

The Revilla girls' endorsements of Camay started with the mother, Paquita Roces, the wife of Armando Goyena.

Two of her daughters became Camay ladies--Maritess Revilla and Cita Revilla.

Anjanette Abayari was a Fil-am who won a beauty contest, went home to the Philippines and joined the Philippine movies.

Singers/Actresses and recording artists were also asked to endorse the beauty soap. One of this was Zsa Zsa Padilla, the long time partner of the Comedy King, Dolphy and herself was the daughter of a movie actor, Carlos Padilla, Jr.

People thought that it is only the Revilla sisters who were the Camay endorsers. No. Since the 1950;s, movie celebrities, models and beauty queens were already endoring the beauty soap--one of whom was Armi Kuusela-Hilario.

Each one of them had their own ad promo in their advertisement.



 So she knew Tagalog already? This was in her ad.

Mario O' Hara died of leukemia

MARIO O' HARA
 A high calibre director and actor bid good-bye to the world. Here is the news:


June 27, 9:36AM) Director Mario O’Hara died of leukemia on Tuesday morning at the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Pasay City. He was 66 years old, not 68 as earlier reported.
His death was confirmed by his brother Jerry. His body was cremated on Tuesday night, according to Boy Palma, the manager of superstar Nora Aunor, a close friend and long-time collaborator of O’Hara.
Mourners can visit his ashes at the Magallanes Memorial Chapel 2 in Makati.
Palma said Nora is devastated by O’Hara’s passing and had lost her voice from continuous crying.
O’Hara had been confined at the San Juan de Dios Hospital since June 15 where he underwent chemotheraphy to save his life.
Director Jose Javier Reyes immediately paid tribute to his fallen colleague in a Facebook post.
“…Another giant of Philippine theater and film has passed away: Mario O’ Hara, you are a priceless gem…as an actor, as a writer and as a director. The mourning has not yet ceased as we lost another father, pioneer and visionary,” Reyes said.
