Rene Requiestas -RIP
Rene Requiestas was a product of theater, his passport to fame was via
the post-EDSa satire Sic O’clock News. When Joey de Leon got him to
play Chee-tae in the Starzan series, Rene became a very popular
comedic figure and eventually starred in his own movies. Pido/Dida
with Kris Aquino was a blockbuster hit.
His toilet humor, of course, was denounced by the more proper sector
of society. Rene merely laughed his way – toothless at that – to the
bank. He lived life to the fullest and in style – complete with a
retinue of hangers-on. Eventually, he mismanaged his finances and got
sick. He died in the mid-’90s after enjoying half a decade of almost
unequaled popularity.
Renato (Rene) Requiestas (born January 22, 1957 - July 24, 1993) was one of the top Filipino comedic acts of the late 1980s up to the early 1990s. Handpicked by comedian Joey de Leon for his comedic timing and natural funny disposition, Rene became known for his sidekick roles and his toothless grin. Rene is popularly known as the sidekick Cheetae from the movie Starzan, a parody film of Tarzan starring Joey de Leon as Starzan.
He was a poor man before he went into showbusiness. He sold cigarettes in streets before he was discovered by a talent scout. It has been said that he is one of the actors who raised profits for Regal Films and made comedy roles to almost all his movies.
Requiestas died on July 24, 1993 due to tuberculosis and other complications brought about by heavy drinking and smoking.
Requiestas's look-alikes include Frederick Ables, Caezar Ian de Guzmán, Jeffrey Tresmonte, and Jeffrey Barrera. He is also remembered for shouting the line "Cheetae, ganda lalake!" (Cheetae, beautiful guy!)source:wiki

Roderick Paulate
Roderick Paulate started out as a child actor (Kaibigan Ko ang Sto.

Binibining Tsuperman, Kumander Gringa, etc.
On TV, he will be best remembered for playing Benny, the gay sidekick
of Barbara Tengco (Tessie Tomas) in Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata
and, later, as a closet homesexual secretly in love with Aga Muhlach
in Oki Doki Doc. Early in the ’80s, he also did Tepok-Bunot on BBC-2.
Roderick is actually an all-round artist: Aside from doing comedy, he
sings and also dances well.

Divina Valencia
Divina Valencia was born Connie Fuller in 1946. She is the mother of a former matinee idol Dranreb who is the son of an action star Bernard Belleza.
Divina Valencia now resides with the current husband Delfin Quesada in San Diego, California.
Although labeled as sex siren together with Stella Suarez, she was did not strip naked in the movie. Se just wore bikinis and other skimpy clothing. She was the favorite of other action stars such as Fernando Poe, Jr., Jess Lapid, Tony Ferrer and others.
She was only 17 then, a picture of naivete with a hint of the slinky -- thanks to a fine genetic amalgamation of a Filipina mother and a German-Irish dad.
It helped that she came at a time when the country was ready for its first sex symbol. La Divina graced the silver screen, a year after John F. Kennedy was assassinated, when the world lost its innocence. The nation was also in dire need of a fresh start as Diosdado Macapagal was on the last leg of his presidency.
Since she was introduced in "Kardong Kidlat" that launched Jess Lapid to stardom, there was no stopping for Divina. She was embraced by film aficionados as the embodiment of feline grace, guile and ferocity.

Sarsi Emmanuelle
Sarsi Emmanuele was a go-go dancer before she became of the "soft drink beauties", the other two were Pepsi Paloma and Coca Nicolas. She was one of the highest paid bold stars during the height of her popularity.
She proved that she was not only a beauty when she worked with respected and award-winning directors. She was the lead star in Boatman , a film by Director Tikoy Aguiluz. She was an Urian award nominee for her role in this film but eventually lost to Vilma Santos who essayed the role of an activist nun in Sister Stella L . In the bio-pic of Yvonne, an earlier bomba star, she tied for the Urian’s best supporting actress award with Maya ‘Mitch’ Valdez . She also made Virgin Forest under Director Peque Gallaga and Naked City under Director Romy Suzara in the 80’s. She also made several pictures under Director Celso Ad. Castillo.
In 2005, Butch Francisco wrote
Not so long ago, she resurfaced and told the world about the humbling experiences she went through away from the limelight – including working as a takilyera in a feria operated by a relative.
,
She made a comeback last year and was cast in an ABS-CBN soap opera. But now is not really the best time to be in show business. We make very few films. Digital movies pay the actors so little (because the budget is so small) and the only way to survive on TV is to have enough strength to wear those heavy costumes in fantaseryes. But there will always be room for a real talent like Sarsi – one of the few gifted actresses who had to go through the sex film route first before being recognized for her true worth.

APENG DALDAL SLN
several sitcoms – among them, Tindahan sa Nayon and was part of Super
Laugh-In.
APENG DALDAL
Apeng Daldal whose real name was Serafin Gabriel was famous for his protruding teeth. He was a mainstay of several sitcoms – among them, Tindahan sa Nayon and was part of Super Laugh-In.
He was born in 1928 in San Luis Pampanga and died in February 1992 leaving behind eight children.
He worked several odd jobs including circus shows and acrobatic acts in town fiestas. He started in the Manila Opera House doing comedy skits in the late 1940's.
Together with Mar Lopez and Bebing Santos they performed as singers as the Top Three.
Johnny WIlson was the guy who was responsible for his joining the TV.
His first movie was Libis ng Baryo with Susan Roces. His major movie roles were in Magic Bilao and Walis ni Tengteng. His first starring role was Maskulado in 1965.
He was also a scripwriter for some sit-coms of the TV shows.
Apeng Daldal – Like most comedians in those days, Apeng – known for his big set of teeth and his being a fast talker (Daldal) – started in vaudeville where he was a dancer. He honed his dancing skills, however, in the regular “pasayaw ng mga bakla” in his Tondo neighborhood where he was a favorite male dancing partner of post-war cross-dressers. From stage shows, he also ventured into film (with Gina Pareño as leading lady) and television. His most memorable performance for me, however, was in an episode of Eliza (Boots Anson Roa’s drama anthology in the old BBC-2) where he played the personal assistant of a powerful man (Arnold Mendoza). In the story, Mendoza is married to Boots, but has a mistress (Coney Nubla – later to become Coney Reyes) he treats shabbily. After getting Coney pregnant, he dumps her, she loses the baby and dies during the miscarriage. Secretly in love with Coney, Apeng avenges her death by killing Mendoza.
With Apeng’s excellent performance in that Eliza episode, I really started to get convinced that great comedians also make good dramatic actors.
Apeng Daldal died in 1992.

PILAR PILAPIL
Biography of PILAR PILAPIL. BY RICKI LO
MANILA, February 27, 2006 (STAR) FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo - You wonder why the autobiography is entitled The Woman Without a Face when the author, Pilar Pilapil, is one of the loveliest and most visible faces to ever grace the silver screen.
You find the answer at the Conclusion chapter of the book subtitled The Life Story of Pilar Pilapil.
"Looking back," writes Pilar, "I tried very hard for many years to look for the love of a father and find happiness by doing what I wanted, and what everyone wanted me to do. I did what my parents wanted. I did what my directors wanted. I did what my fans wanted. I did what my men wanted, but most of all I did what I wanted! I soared to the highest levels of success that this world had to offer, only to find when I got there that I was empty, did not know who I was, and even despaired of life itself. I really did not have a face of my own."
But this book, which reads more like a testimony that renewed Christians (like the author is) deliver before a rapt audience than a real autobiography, Pilar Delilah "Lailing" Veloso Pilapil has finally put a face on that woman, and what a face it is!
Writing in all candidness in an easy style, as if she’s just writing a long-overdue revealing/revelatory letter to a trusted friend, Pilar starts her story from her childhood in Liloan town, Cebu, where she was born on Oct. 12, 1950, explaining without any apology that she has two sides – the Pilar Side which she claims is her "saintly nature" (the name Pilar having been taken from Mary of Pillar whose feast day falls on her birthday); and the Delilah Side, her "sinful nature" (Delilah having been derived from the woman who betrayed Samson, her lover, by cutting his hair, source of his strength and power).
She’s the woman without a face but with two distinct sides quite contrary to each other.
The youngest of six girls (with four brothers after her) recalled that childhood, spent with a spinster aunt since age five, with an overtone of bitterness toward a father who, she insists, didn’t love her, citing an incident when she was 14 and starting to be "mischievous" with the guys: She obeyed terrified when her father, depressed after losing his job at a tire company, summoned her to his room and, she narrated, "shut the door behind me and I learned just how very cruel my father could be."
What that "cruelty" was she didn’t elaborate. But after that incident, she says, "My life was never again the same."
Faking her age (18, she indicated in the application when in fact she was only sweet sixteen), she won as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe in 1967. After representing the country in that year’s Miss Universe Pageant, Pilar succumbed to the lure of showbiz, rising above being "a mere beauty" by winning a Best Actress award (for Imelda, ang Uliran) at the Manila Film Festival.
And she fell in love with, you guessed it, older men, first with Dolphy (who, according to some sources, she almost married) and then with a man whom she identifies only as Doy, father of her only child Pia who married a handsome blind model. Pilar recalled that on their first meeting, the man Doy tried to seduce her ("...the fact that he was proposing sex without romance was a big turn-off to me..."), so she ran out of the back entrance and down the stairs because the elevator of the apartment building was out of order, much like "Cinderella running away from my Prince Charming."
Well, to make a long story short, Pilar fell deeply in love with the man Doy, "even though he was married with several children," convinced that "I believed I learned to love him, and I believed that he loved me," foolishly desiring that they would be together forever even if she knew that that could never happen.
One of Pilar’s poignant recollections of the man Doy was when he fought with his wife (unidentified in the book) and he stayed with Pilar for one week: Midnight came and my helper used the intercom and told me that Doy’s two daughters were downstairs. I went down to see them while Pia (then only about three years old) and her dad were fast asleep. As we talked, his daughter told me, "You finally found what you wanted." I replied, "It’s not a matter of what I want, it’s a matter of how many people get hurt in the process. There are eight of you, nine including your mother. There are only two of us." They both became quiet and asked if they could see their father. I led the elder daughter to our bedroom upstairs and she woke her dad, saying, "Dad, mom is already home." He woke up and told me, "Mama (our term of endearment), I’ll go home first."
I guess you and I have an idea what happened to that "affair to remember."
This much is clear: Pilar had a fixation for older men because of her desperate search for a father figure...for a redemption from the painful memory of a father who, she said, never loved her.

Palito
Palito (September 4, 1934 – April 12, 2010) was a veteran Filipino
slapstick comedian and actor who was at the height of his career in
the nineteen seventies and eighties. He was well-known for his
unusually light and thin anatomy, thus earning him the
self-deprecating screenname Palito, which is Spanish for stick,
understood in Filipino as matchstick or toothpick.
Born as Reynaldo Alfredo R. Hipolito, Sr., Palito was born in Calamba,
Laguna, near the house of Dr. Jose Rizal or the Rizal Shrine. As a
teenager in the 1950s, he took job as a dishwasher in a restaurant
called Alex Soda Fountain, located beside the Cine Odeon in Calle
Azcarraga (now C.M. Recto). With the restaurant being a hangout of
movie-stars, he would be discovered by Lauro Santiago of Santiago
Productions.
He was only 21 when he first discovered the world of stage acting. A
student of Arellano University in Manila, he decided to choose acting
over his studies around 1959. Palito started as an “extra” in the 1960
Prinsipe Amante movie, starring the then superstar Rogelio dela Rosa.
One of his early movies was Pitong Zapata in 1965. His first non-extra
role was that as a sidekick of Jun Aristorenas in the late 60s film
Bingbong at Dodong. At first, he was cast in straight action films.
But because of his thinness, he was groomed as a comedian. With
moneymaking films, he would then join the cast of films with Fernando
Poe Jr., Dolphy, Chiquito, Panchito, Pugo at Togo, Pugak at Tugak,
Ramon Revilla, and many other big names in Philippine cinema.
In the late 1970s, the decline of Philippine movies and emergence of
“Bomba” films hurt Palito’s career. The action and comedy films which
Palito made were not being made as they used to. Those were the times
when Palito lost many of his investments.
Palito’s career had a brief resurgence then later peaked in the 1980s.
He starred in several comedy movies parodying American action films,
such as Rambuto,a Rambo spoof, the title being a pun of the Tagalog
word buto which means “bone”, again to capitalize on his being
“thin-boned”, and a James Bond spoof, James Bone, where he plays an
emaciated version of the secret agent. Other popular movies of his
were No Blood, Kumander Kalansalay, Walang Matigas na Buto sa Gutom na
Aso, and Rambo Tango.
He would also been known as a star in a lot of kitsch Pinoy horror
films as a zombie/corpse. His sunken hollow eyes and reed-thin body,
while not aesthetically-pleasing in the popular sense, fit the
corpse-like demeanor that local filmmakers love to utilize.
Palito laid low from Philippine cinema in the 90′s, only occasionally
playing bit parts, like in the 1992 film by contemporary
comedian/actor Dolphy, Home Along The River, a send-up of the popular
American Home Alone franchise.
On June 17, 2004, burgeoning comedy actor Vhong Navarro portrayed the
veteran comedian in a TV real-life drama series, Maala-ala Mo Kaya
(Will You Ever Remember), focusing on his life story as a survivor of
the Japanese occupation during World War II and his heyday as a
slapstick comedian during the 1970s and 1980s.
Palito starred in an independent film, Enterpool: Senior Citizen in
Action, released 24 August 2005, in the midst of the decline of
Philippine cinema. While it was received well by nostalgic movie-goers
and local movie critics, it failed to take the general public’s notice
due to lack of promotion and marketing. His last movie was M.O.N.A.Y.
in 2007.
Palito’s family, the Hipolitos, sold their house in Pacita Complex in
San Pedro, Laguna in 2004 and moved to Imus, Cavite for a smaller
place in a low-cost housing subdivision in Cavite.
Once voted as one of the top ten Filipino comedians of all-time,
Palito engaged in small stage shows to make a living in his last
years. He had a low-paying job performing a live music show Tuesday
evenings in a small casino in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
In the first quarter of 2010, Palito, a known smoker, was being
confined at a hospital for a month due to lung problems. After coming
home from work on 6 April 2010, he was rushed to the Imus Family
Hospital due to complaints of serious stomach pain. He was later
transferred to the ward section of Philippine General Hospital on the
same night.
Mark Escueta, drummer of the band Rivermaya who worked with Palito for
the music video of their single “Ambotsa,” was the first to break the
news of Palito’s illness via Facebook. Several young celebrities
called for donations through respective Twitter accounts while help
was extended from showbiz colleagues. Among visitors was former
Philippine president Joseph Estrada.
Palito was declared dead at 7:05 a.m. on April 12, 2010 in the
Philippine General Hospital from a lung complication.

Myra Manibog
Through prayers, Myra Manibog has gotten over her sad past life as a
bold star. And what a past it was – having done lurid sex scenes on
the big screen in the mid-’80s. She must have been the most exploited
in her batch because she claimed in her interview that she was only 13
when she started doing those sex films. No wonder she went later in
life, but mercifully was redeemed when she found the Lord. Today, she
is a preacher and has found peace at last.
Listening to Myra, you will be impressed with the way she speaks. For
somebody whose dialogues in the movies were limited to ooohs and
aaahs, she is very articulate and her thoughts are fluid.
Obviously she had always been intelligent, but was young and misguided
and so she chose the wrong path. But she turned in a new leaf and here
she is – the best example of a person who has been to hell and back
and is now in the loving arms of the Almighty God.

Cristina Crisol
Cristina Crisol who was Jean Elizabeh May in real life had nothing but the shapely body and mestiza looks when she joined show business thru bold flicks.
Hers was a brief fame and fortune. After appearing in 12 movies such as Kikirut-Kirot, Uhaw na Uhaw, Di mahilom ang Sugat and Paraisong Gubat, she simply disappeared from
the public’s view.
In 2008, Cristina resurfaced in GMA’s Wish Ko Lang, Channel 7 multi- awarded TV program. It’s another sad story of a former star in dire need of help. She’s now married to a construction worker and with children. She hopes to revive her career.
